Wash Us Away/Carry Me Home contains narrative imagery in reflection of the murder of Black Americans at the hands of police officers. Drawing inspiration from different aspects and practices of black culture throughout history, themes such as fear, trauma, and PTSD are explored as an attempt to focus on the various stages of grief and recovery one suffers after witnessing black bodies perish in the streets of America due to police brutality and systemic racism. This ongoing project is also a study of my own identity as a Black American navigating the challenging environments of the nation my family has called home for over 250 years.
